This group project was completed in Spring 2018, for a developmental geneticist in the U.S. Navy. This patient education booklet, Your Body’s Instruction Manual: An Introduction to DNA, Genes and Chromosomes achieved our instructional goal, providing the geneticist with a tool to use during the appointment and a job aid for the patients (learners) to take home. At home, the learners can review the information in a less emotional context. Then they can use the booklet to share accurate information with concerned friends and family members.

This patient information is to be sent in a welcome email to help patients prepare for their visit by introducing them to the geneticist, the appointment, and the facility. The goal of this deliverable was to reduce anxiety and stress and get the patients thinking about the appointment as a place where they will get the information and tools they need to navigate the healthcare system.
